Not sure where our Summer went! As soon as we see the sight of Pumpkins and Gourds coming into the warehouse, we know it's officially Autumn! It was great to see one of our customers order such a fascinating rage of pumpkins for their displays in the heart of Bristol – some we’ve never seen before!
Weddings during October are also very popular using distinct rich Autumnal colours (Dark burgundy cosmos / Vienna Chrysanthemum Blooms, Cappuccino roses) just to name a few. We also had the privilege of providing wedding flowers that were bold, bright and beautiful (Anemones / spray roses and a wide range of dahlias!) We always look forward to seeing the photos from our customers - Search us up on TikTok to see the full range!
Sacks of moss and Spruce are gradually filling up the warehouse too which can only mean one thing, the wreath making courses will be starting shortly for a lot of our Florists! Before we know it, we will be surrounded by Beautiful Uk Grown non drop Christmas trees!
Summertime is what we like to call 'Wedding Season' as we get inundated with Wedding flower requests.
We have seen a huge increase in 'D.I.Y' Wedding flowers. The 'natural & wild' look theme is always very popular which often includes mixed grasses, miscanthus, tanacetum, antirrhinums and veronica to name a few. We've also had the pleasure of helping with a wedding request which consisted of 100 2m Delphiniums and over 100 hydrangeas which were a stunning combination.
We love receiving pictures of our flowers and helping to create the overall vision. Take a look at our Wedding & Events tab for more information.
We've had a large variety of UK Grown fuchsia this year (who knew there were so many - in fact there are over 100 species of fuchsias!) From Snowcap to Dollar Princess, these beautiful plants really do bring that tropical feel to any border or tub!
This year, everything seems to have come at once for us in the flowers and plant trade. Straight into the New Year and we already had Valentines to think about! Again we notice that it is not all about the traditional red rose at Valentines with different styles of bouquets being popular and also, house plants being a great gift too. That's not to say we weren't cutting thousands of roses for the big day!
Then a few weeks later, with little down time and a lot earlier than most years, was one of our biggest weekends ...Mothers day! We always block out the whole weekend of Mothering Sunday as we know orders can come in quite late for our customers so we like to be around to give as much support as we can.
Thank you so much to everyone keeping us very busy over the past few months, now onto Easter (again a lot earlier!) and what we call 'plant season!' The sun has started to make an appearance and we know many gardeners will been keen to start getting their outdoor spaces ready for the warmer weather.
The temperatures have started to drop as we head into colder mornings (especially at 3am when we get in!) and darker evenings.
We've seen the arrival of beautiful autumnal flowers, pumpkins and hardy plants which will survive the winter ahead.
December has crept upon us and our warehouse is now full of beautiful UK GROWN cut trees, spruce galore and moss for lots of wreath making! We've been delighted to see pictures from our customers with their trees and wreaths which have looked stunning! It's all go for us right up until Christmas Eve when we then look forward to spending some quality time as a family!
We would like to wish all of our customers a very Merry Christmas and a big Thank You for your continued support.
Summer is here and like most typical English summers, so far we've had long spells of glorious sunshine followed by a lot of rain. This has meant, keen gardeners were able to get their outdoor spaces ready a little earlier than usual this year. Geraniums have been going out in their 100's! These hardy perennials are one of Britain's favourites, being easy to grow with many flowering for months.
Our English outdoor selection of herbs, dahlias, lavender and fuchsias are all favourites at this time of year. You can always rely on these to provide bounds of colours, textures and smells. It's amazing how many different types of fuchsia there are, from upright to cascading, you can chose which are suitable for borders, pots or hanging baskets.
When the sun is shining through the warehouse and the scent of fresh lavender takes over, it doesn't get much better than this!
SPRING 23
Where have the last few months gone?
Valentine's Day came and went then Mother's day came upon us and as you'd expect, was still one of our busiest periods!
Its is still very traditional for flowers to be given to a loved one on Mothering Sunday however house plants and outdoor planters are becoming more popular as gifts.
Now that spring has arrived, we can start the count down to when we will see more sunshine, the temperatures start to increase and we can spend more time outdoors. It has been lovely seeing the arrival of daffodils, tulips and hyacinth which will no doubt achieve a colourful garden!
Is November too early to pop up the Christmas tree? Some may say yes however The Bloom Room starts getting very Festive at the start of November with the arrival of beautiful hellebores, prims, kalanchoes and then we start to see heaps of spruce, moss and dried fruit for wreaths. Wreath making courses are becoming even more popular amongst florists holding their courses (accompanied by a little Christmas beverage, mince pies, festive music and look to be a great night out!) but also create kits for those who prefer to do theirs in the comfort of their own home. We've seen some beautiful different creations using all of our materials.
This year we've had great feedback on our UK Grown non drop Christmas trees and again have enjoyed seeing these being used in window displays.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our customers a very Merry Christmas from everyone at The Bloom Room.
As the temperature starts to drop and the darker nights draw in, Autumnal products start arriving in the warehouse. We've seen some great window displays using our gourds and pampas. Pampas create that extra special touch to any arrangement and there is such a wide variety bursting with gorgeous autumnal colours.
With Halloween around the corner, pumpkins will start being added to many orders. It is said that the US produces approx 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins every year! Pumpkins originated in central America and will grow on all continents except Antarctica!
Hardy autumn flowering Cyclamen, which require low maintenance and are robust throughout the colder months have also been popular adding colour and character to any indoor and outdoor space.

Reds
We've been fortunate with the warmer weather this month (with very little April Showers!) so keen gardeners are starting to get their gardens ready to enjoy over the next few months. Our selection of bedding plants (lobelia, cosmos, surfina, sweet peas, bizzy lizzy) are always very popular at this time of year.
Geraniums are also very good bedding plants and a long time favourite. Flowering between spring and summer, these sturdy, sun loving plants are best suited to hot, dry positions. It is estimated that approx 40 million geraniums are planted in UK gardens each year and some essential oils in certain types of scented geraniums are said to help alleviate depression and stress.
Fruit and veg plants are also in high demand (tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, celery, cucumber, lettuce) as growing your own has also been very popular.
Weddings are starting to vamp up at this time of year too and we are seeing the beautiful peony return as a favourite for many brides. These long lived perennials grow into big fluffy, fragrant flowers and are a real statement piece in any arrangement.
Spring is finally upon us with beautiful blooms now appearing. A real signature of spring are the Tulips which come in a variety of colours and types. People still visit Holland to see their famous Tulip fields.
Iris, named after the Greek goddess, also peaks during March. These flowers are planted as bulbs and not only come in the iconic purple but white and yellow too. The beautiful Muscari, Native to Eurasia look like mini versions of larger varieties of hyacinths which are both delicate and striking at the same time.
As we all know, in March we celebrate Mothering Sunday and preparations start early at The Bloom Room for this occasion.
Flowers are the number one gift given on Mother’s Day and sees around one quarter of all flowers purchased throughout the year for this one date alone.
Dried and preserved flowers are not only long lasting, they require little care and can be a real centre piece!
Valentines Day, one of the busiest days in the floral trade and our warehouse becomes a sea of red roses.
Worldwide, approximately over 50 million roses are given for Valentine's Day each year. The red rose is the traditional gift for valentines as it was the favourite flower of Venus – the Roman goddess of love.
It is said that the number of roses given at Valentines has significant meanings. Twelve roses is the common way to say I love you throughout the year and giving the single rose means you fell in love at first sight.
The rainbow rose is growing ever more popular, also referred to as the Tye-Dye, Happy rose. The process is simply quite fascinating as each stem is split and dipped into different coloured water. The colours are drawn into the petals resulting in a multi-coloured stunning rose.
Happy New Year to all our customers!
The festive period may be over but The Bloom Room are already preparing for busy months ahead with Valentines Day and Mother’s Day now on the horizon.
Did you know that January birthdays are represented by the very delicate snowdrop and carnation. A hardy herbaceous plant, the snowdrop is one of the earliest bulbs to bloom in Spring and the carnation has a very spiritual background often associating fascination, distinction, and love.
A real sign of spring is seeing the daffs starting to appear. Known by their botanical name narcissus, signifying new life and resilience, strong enough to survive the winter storms.
It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas here at The Bloom Room Bristol as our warehouse starts to resemble a small winter wonderland of trees and wreaths. Did you know approx. 8 million natural Christmas trees are consumed by the UK each year. In the UK, natural Christmas trees outsell artificial Christmas trees by a ratio of 3:1.
However, there’s no Christmas plant more iconic than the Poinsettia which are sometimes referred to as the Christmas Star due to the shape of their leaves. Poinsettia like to be placed in bright, diffused sunlight, preferably near a sunny window where it will receive at least six to eight hours of diffused light per day.
So what plant or flower (in our opinion) would make the perfect gift this Christmas? The Christmas cactus house plant blooms during the Christmas season, but its long green arms are attractive throughout the year. With cultivars in a rainbow of colours, it is a plant worthy of appreciation.
During Autumn we enjoy a range of plants and flowers with colours inspired by the fall season. A mixture of autumnal yellow, red, orange and brown, here are some of our favourites…
Sedum: These succulent plants with fleshy leaves and flat, nectar-rich flowerheads are robust and elegant at the same time.
Pansy: The large petaled pansy is ideal for adding colour to any outdoor space over colder months.
Cyclamen: A delightful tuberous perennial again providing some much-needed colour on those darker days.
Chrysanthemums: Rich autumn-coloured chrysanthemums are the reliable flower for long-lasting bursts of rich colour.
Sunflowers: The iconic sunflower is easy to grow and maintain, striking throughout the seasons.
Fountain grass: The fluffy heads of fountain grass, delicate on the eye but have an arrangement like a fountain of fireworks.
Many of us on the receiving end of beautiful flowers and plants are unaware of the behind-the-scenes journey they take from grower to customer.
Flowers and plants are grown and imported from all over the world with many of these starting their journey in Holland.
We purchase flowers and plants from a daily auction in Holland.
The stock which we have purchased from the auction is transported from Holland to our Bristol depot.
The Bloom Room team await the arrival of the delivery early hours of the morning. Customer orders are then picked and ready for collection or delivery.
I must say, the customer service I have received at the Bloom Room has been fantastic, especially helping me last minute. Thank you!

The flowers I had from The Bloom Room were just beautiful and the bride loved them. The different coloured peonies were so much better, so thank you so much for all your help.
